The Cento is Too Left Leaning

by Cole Hiller

Next, I meticulously researched and interviewed every single writer and editor at Cento. I  checked their social media (whether it be new posts or old posts) and read through all their likes and comments. I also talked to their friends and family in order to get an accurate read of the characters of these people and what they stand for. After spending a treacherous 5 or 10 minutes doing this, I discovered something that literally made me vomit: they all tend more left leaning and progressive. It turns out that the staff at the Cento who show up regularly and write most of the articles tend to have this bias. This seems to be a core problem with the Cento, and I will not stand for it. Obviously, I fired all of them, even the editor-in-chief. Even if many of them have written fairly neutral news articles, they have written too many opinion pieces. This left-wing bias, after all, comes from opinion pieces (where you share your opinions in an article, something anyone at Centre is welcome to do, regardless of political affiliation). How could journalists have opinions?!

If I recall, before I fired the Cento writers, they had reached out to more right-wing, conservative individuals and organizations for input and quotes in several articles. These opinions have actually been featured in the Cento many times. But that hasn’t been happening lately. No right winger has reached out to write for us. To me, this is an indication that the original writers should have tried harder. They should have made those busy nursing and econ-finance majors come to our meetings on Tuesdays at 4:15pm in the Grissom Reading Room of the library, or used our convenient submission form featured on our Instagram, because we would print them regardless of political affiliation. Gosh!

This organization is falling apart. I think this problem would be fixed if we just stopped printing altogether. Or maybe we should just have more people write for us, so they can say what they want to say. Actually… I’m not doing any of that, because the Cento is just me now. I will pick up most of the writing work and express a variety of political views to include everyone’s views, all at once. Writing things I don’t believe in is incredibly authentic, after all. As a professional PR employee, there is nothing more important than polished, media-ready, authentic content. So, Cento readers, get ready for the new hell!
