First CentreTerm? Here’s Some Advice

by Aelwen Iredale

CentreTerm is just around the corner, and with that, it is time to gear up for one of the most chaotic parts of Centre’s academic year. However, while most students know what to expect during January, freshmen may not. So, without further ado, here are few helpful facts about CentreTerm.

1. Going to class is important. No matter how tempting, the cost to your grade for skipping class during CentreTerm is far worse than that of the regular academic year. Skipping one day is the equivalent of three MWF courses or two TR courses. Additionally, no matter the size of your class, professors will notice you’re gone because they have fewer students to oversee during CentreTerm.

2. This will be the worst and best part of the year. Whether or not you take an extremely advanced class, the pace of coursework will be 200 miles per hour (as compared to Centre’s regular 100 miles per hour speed). Without a doubt, your life will be a bit hectic. However, CentreTerm is also the term for shenanigans. With the way classes are scheduled, you get to see your friends more, and, no matter how chaotic the class, it is only one course, and then you are free to get up to college adventures with friends. Bonding over CentreTerm is one of the best parts of the Centre experience.

3. Don’t engage in the CentreTerm Challenge. Guys, it’s just not feasible. The dent to your bank account will be astronomical. No one needs a three week bender on top of Centre expectations.
