Dry Stack and The Hub are Danville staples for the poor, caffeine-addicted students of Centre, especially for the ones who need to escape the confines of campus but don’t have the cars to do it. However, what do you do when one member of your friend group wants to go to Dry Stack while the other wants to visit The Hub? Well, the answer isn’t all-out war but, in fact, just measuring the pros and cons of each coffee shop and what could tip the scale. It depends on what you want from your campus excursion, after all.
Dry Stack:
This coffee shop, located on Burke’s side of the street, is a charming cafe with a warm, wooden interior. It mostly has tables for seating 2-4 people, with a few armchairs and a longer table for larger parties. The cafe has the exact chill vibe that every strong coffee shop has.
Pros:
- A variety of good coffee with seasonal and regular flavores
- Fresh, fluffy pastries, like croissants
- Warm atmosphere with wood, warm lights, and lofi music
- Friendly staff
- Connected to Plank on Main, a pilates studio
Cons:
- Closes at 3:00
- So popular it runs out of chairs
Student Testimonies:
“Dry Stack not only knows how to perfect coffee chemistry but also community chemistry. The coffee bar is simply the best place to drink a warm mocha and make new friends.”
The Hub:
This coffee shop, located on Bluegrass Pizza Pub’s side of the street, is a cafe with a modern interior with bright lights and white tables and chairs. It has a variety of seating for 4-6 people along with a row of seats against a window overlooking Main Street.
Pros:
- Good brunch food
- Closer to campus (if barely)
- Has seats next to windows
- Connected to a bookstore
- Slightly cheaper than Dry Stack
Cons:
- Modern atmosphere
- Feels like you’re still on campus because it’s connected to the Centre bookshop
Student Testimonies:
“I like that their coffee is on the sweeter side and they have good bagels and salads. It’s better to go to for like lunch dates while Dry Stack is more study vibes.”
So, remember, it isn’t that one cafe is better than the other, it’s that they offer different things to students. Choose what works best for you!
