Good morning, everyone! A number of revisions and additions to the Spring Term 2025 Convocation calendar have recently been made, reflected both on the document provided below and in the descriptions below. These events can also now be found under the Convocations page on CentreNet.

Mark your calendars for these upcoming convocations! The requirement that students must attend 12 convocations has been lifted, but as liberal arts students at the esteemed college that is Centre, every student should seek to broaden their horizons. Attend the convocations below to learn more about the world and yourself.

A Resource for All Humanity: The History of the Navigate App

Friday, April 4 | 7:30 pm- Newlin Hall (open to the public)

Be sure to get a voucher for this one early, as we anticipate it’ll sell out quickly! Gather in Newlin for a fascinating evening where developers from EAB Global explain the riveting process behind maintaining the most useful app in Centre’s repertoire! The app’s formulation (from idea to reality) and entire history will be fully detailed in a 4-hour rollercoaster through your favourite campus tool. Be sure to bring anecdotes about all the times Navigate has saved your academic career- you’ll be asked on the way out in order to get that credit!

War of the Greek Worlds

Tuesday, April 15  – Whenever one army is left standing | 7:30 pm –  Crossroads between Breck, Bingham, and Greek Row (NOT open to the public)

We all need education on battle in the current political climate, so what better than a live demonstration? Every frat and sorority will be issued paintball guns, and unaffiliated students will get to watch Centre be rocked by a liberal arts war.

Educational benefits: Learning the art of war through death-by-paint and civilian casualties, watching negotiations and treaty-making sessions, and realizing that everyone is the bad guy.

Note: Freshman pledges will likely be cannon fodder. Make funeral preparations now.

Survey #252357082

Thursday, April 17 – ??? | 00:00 am – ??? – Online (NOT open to the public)

It’s your favourite! Another student survey sent 3 times to your inbox! Results might be confidential? This time there’s no prize, just a convocation credit! Please take the survey. Please take the survey! Take our survey! TAKE OUR SURVEY. ŤȚÂÃĀĶKËĘÉ ÖØÓŨǓŮŘRŘ ŠȘŞÛÜǓŘRŘVVVĖËÈÝŶŸ

Note: Despite there being no prize, students who complete the survey have a 1/4000th chance of being enrolled in a nationwide drawing for the last penny to be minted by the U.S. government.

Radical Ultimate Grass—-Mowing Experience!

Monday, April 28 | 7:15 am- Grand Lawn (in front of Old Centre) (NOT open to the public)

Has anyone noticed a distinct lack of grounds crew recently? Shut up, that’s not true! At Centre, we treat all our staff just as well as we treat our students! The rumours are obviously false, but rumours about how EPIC and TUBULAR mowing huge swaths of grass is (for free) have been undeniably proven (you will not be compensated)! Meet up with (remaining) Centre grounds faculty as you get a state-of-the-art crash course in precision cutting different large areas of grass across campus. With the skills you’ll learn, you’ll undoubtedly keep coming back on, say, a scheduled weekly basis to perfect your abilities and become a MOWING MASTER! We can’t wait to see you show out!

Note: Participants must also pay for mower fuel, and probably mowers.

DVD Logo: When Will it Fit the Corner?

Thursday, April 28  | 7:30 pm – Young 113 (open to the public)

Ready for a piece of nostalgia and apprehensive excitement? Then come to Young 113 for the time of your life. That infamous DVD logo that appeared on pause-screens still bounces around the television to this day. This evening, we prepared a daring experiment: to discover when it fits into the corner perfectly! This is an experience we’ve all waited for but never witnessed. Now is your time to complete a childhood dream.

Note: Any overwhelming anxiety is not permitted. If you grow rowdy and start a riot of excitement, you will be escorted from the premises.

D-E-What?: Setting the Record Straight

Tuesday, May 6 | 7:30 pm- Weisiger Theatre (open to the public)

Have you watched the news recently? Maybe even been present in a place where people are talking about things that are happening? If so, you’ll be well aware that policies of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are being blanket-targeted in educational and governmental cutbacks, affecting everything from cancer research to Pell Grants. A tricky, elusive question continues to haunt politicians and laypeople alike, however: what does DEI even entail, or mean at all? This convocation seeks to establish fact from fiction in the most obvious way possible. We’re inviting low-tier politicians from across Kentucky to answer hard-hitting game show questions about the bane of all our existences: belonging and support for marginalised groups. Can you spell equity? Did DEI cause all the plane crashes? Do people actually speak Spanish in America? Who knows? We’ll have to hear from our wise elected officials to learn the real truth!

Note: Hosted by Coach Andy Frye in a Pat Sajak costume.

How Much Should You Study? 24 Hours!

Monday, May 12 – Tuesday, May 13 | 7:30 pm-7:30 pm – JVAC (open to the public)

Students need to be taking three hours outside of class to study for every one hour in class. So, what happens when you take eight hours of classes? This convocation seeks to answer that question through a live art installation where a Centre student is locked in a glass house and forced to study for twenty-four hours.

Educational benefits: Learning sleep is important for studying and seeing how much you should be studying.

Note: The volunteer will be treated for any mental trauma due to exhaustion.

Please be sure to take a few moments to review the Beginning of Term Convocation Notes that are attached to this email.  In this document you will find information on the Convocation credit policies and procedures as well as Norton Center student ticket information.

For more information, including changes throughout the term, please check the Convocations page on CentreNet; this page should be your main source for updates to the convocation calendar throughout the academic year. You can also follow Centre College Convocations on Facebook and Instagram.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
