We all hear the hustle and bustle of construction on our small campus as we make the trek to and from class every day. Most days, it seems as if we live on a construction site. We wonder, “Is anything really even being built back there?” The answer is yes!
The new baseball facility opened in March; the stadium complex that will house future football games and track and field events is on its way to a fall completion; and construction has begun on a multi-purpose fieldhouse, aquatics center, and wellness complex! Questions surround the mysterious project growing in our back yard, many of which focus on the purpose of the building and who access will be granted to. The answer is everyone! While there will be planned programs and hours set aside for the use of athletics, the facility under construction is not just for varsity athletic training and development; it is a part of Centre’s new Initiative for Wellness and Excellence (IWAE) for the entire campus and community! The many new additions to Centre’s campus–including new fitness studios, an indoor track and turf field, an Olympic-sized pool, a Strength Center, a new dining option, offices and locker rooms, classrooms and meeting spaces, and more–will be used by our entire campus, as well as the Danville community and visitors from all over the country. The new project also offers another beautiful architectural statement piece with the addition of the clock tower plaza to Centre’s campus.
Donor-funded resources and spaces like these are ideal for continuing the growth of the Centre Community and ushering in a new era of health and wellness within our Colonel Community. Whether it means taking a fitness class, playing an intramural sport, studying in the common’s areas, or attending athletics events to cheer on our fellow Colonels, this initiative enhances the Centre experience for all students!
