Devine’s Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch in Harrodsburg is a prime spot for snagging a nice pumpkin, watching children get lost in a corn maze, or participating in a plethora of other activities like hay rides and trampolining.

Glenn and Martina Devine have been farmers for 30 years and open their farm every fall to welcome families and college students. Their farm has grown over the years and now is packed with everything you want from a pumpkin patch, and the corn maze is truly amaizing.

Devine’s knows their corn. During your visit you can hit up the “Corn Cafe” to get some grub, or roll around in the “Corn Crib” where you can play in a pile of corn kernels.

The corn creation they take most pride in, though, is their world famous corn maze. This year, they cut a political pattern in their corn maze with pictures of the Democratic donkey and the Republican elephant along with a command to “VOTE.” They won an award for the 5th best corn maze in the country.

Some of the activities are catered toward younger children, but people of all ages can enjoy farm animals and nice pumpkins. Junior Sarah Holloway reacted, “I was a little too excited when I saw the animals. Goats are my favorite animals, and I definitely freaked out a little when I got to pet them.”

Junior Beka Bruner joined Sarah at Devine’s last season for an Alpha Delta Pi sisterhood event. One of the things that both she and Sarah praised was the hay ride, which is a unique experience and a relaxing alternative to some of the other high energy activities.

On the subject of the appeal of pumpkin patches to college students, Beka replied that “college students can definitely still have fun as a group if they go at the beginning of the season, avoiding the hundreds of children.”

Devine’s is a popular place, more than you might think, so make sure that you plan out your visit at an optimal time to avoid waiting in long lines, which was the target of one of Beka’s sentiments.

Although it still feels like summer, you should do as Sarah recommended and “convince yourself it is fall” by stopping by Devine’s pumpkin patch. It is a perfect way to take a break from the grind and enjoy the season.

BY JASON PINTO – STAFF WRITER The fall season has arrived, and there is no better way to immerse yourself in the true spirit of the harvest than by visiting a pumpkin patch.
