Looking for a way to fill your new-found free time (or avoid your family) over break? <\/span><\/span>The Cento<\/i><\/span><\/span> has compiled a list of must-see TV shows for any dedicated viewer to binge-watch this winter.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1. <\/b><\/span><\/span>How to Get Away with Murder<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

ABC\u2019s newest drama <\/span><\/span>How to Get Away with Murder<\/i><\/span><\/span> (HTGAWM) is so good it should be a crime. The critically acclaimed series, starring Golden Globe nominee Viola Davis, follows the personal and professional life of lawyer\/professor Annalise Keating, who selects the top students in her class to intern at her law firm. Each of the season\u2019s eight episodes features the team of students working with Keating on a variety of cases, from insider trading to the murder of an abusive husband.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The twist? <\/span><\/span>HTGAWM<\/i><\/span><\/span> features a series of scream-inducing flash-forwards to the night the students cover up a murder that took place in their teacher\u2019s home. We don\u2019t find out who the victim is until the end of the first episode, and eight episodes in, we still don\u2019t know who committed the crime (though my bets are on chronic do-gooder Michaela Pratt, played by Aja Naomi King).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All episodes are currently available for streaming on Hulu and ABC\u2019s website.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For Best Results:<\/b><\/span><\/span> If possible, watch the season through all at once, and avoid reading spoilers from this week\u2019s winter finale.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2. <\/b><\/span><\/span>The Mindy Project<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Get your comedy fix this break with FOX\u2019s <\/span><\/span>The Mindy Project<\/i><\/span><\/span>. Starring former <\/span><\/span>The Office<\/i><\/span><\/span> cast member Mindy Kaling, this series follows Kaling\u2019s alter-ego Dr. Mindy Lahiri and her mishaps as an OB\/GYN at a small clinic in New York City.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The more interesting moments are found in Mindy\u2019s office interactions with her co-worker Dr. Danny Castellano (played by Chris Messina). The two certainly have unspoken feelings for each other and produce one of TV\u2019s more interesting \u201cwill they\/won\u2019t they\u201d relationships in the earlier seasons.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Mindy Project<\/i><\/span><\/span> is currently airing on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m., and all episodes are available for streaming on Hulu.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For Best Results:<\/b><\/span><\/span> Pay close attention to Chris Messina\u2019s impressive and irresitible dance moves.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3.<\/b><\/span><\/span> Gilmore Girls<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Good news: Netflix made all seven seasons of the Bechdel test-passing dramedy <\/span><\/span>Gilmore Girls<\/i><\/span><\/span> available for streaming last month.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Bad news: productivity across the nation (or at least, in my dorm room) reached an all-time low.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The show, which <\/span><\/span>Entertainment Weekly<\/i><\/span><\/span> named as a \u201cnew TV classic,\u201d follows the life of single mother Lorelai as she raises her Ivy League-bound daughter, Rory. You\u2019ll see both Gilmore girls fall in and out of love, all while finding themselves along the way. You\u2019re sure to fall head-over-heels for Stars Hollow, the show\u2019s picturesque small town, and the quirky yet endearing characters that inhabit it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Just don\u2019t blame me when you find that you want to start taking late-night trips to Luke\u2019s Diner.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For Best Results:<\/b><\/span><\/span> Suffer through the Dean and Christopher phases, and know that it gets better.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4. <\/b><\/span><\/span>The West Wing<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking to exercise your brain over break, be sure to check out NBC\u2019s former hit <\/span><\/span>The West Wing<\/i><\/span><\/span>. Dubbed the best political drama of the past decade by multiple major media sources, the show follows the White House staffers powering the fictional Bartlet administration. There\u2019s rapid-fire dialogue, highly stylized walk-and-talk scenes, and of course, plenty of political dilemmas for the characters to grapple with.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll immediately love the show\u2019s all-star ensemble cast, featuring the talents of Rob Lowe and six-time Emmy winner Allison Janney. This motley crew has palpable chemistry from day one, bouncing writer Aaron Sorkin\u2019s witty zingers off one another at the speed of light.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At this time of year, it also doesn\u2019t hurt that the show has some of the best holiday-themed episodes in the history of television.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All seven seasons are currently available for streaming on Netflix.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For Best Results:<\/b><\/span><\/span> Watch the first five episodes, skip to \u201cWhat Kind of Day Has It Been,\u201d and continue watching from there. Fair warning: crucial cast members bow out following the powerful season four finale, so view the final three seasons at your own risk.\u200b<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

5.<\/b><\/span><\/span> Sherlock<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Many Americans have already heard about (and become dedicated viewers of) this acclaimed BBC series. If you aren\u2019t among this bunch, hunker down this winter with <\/span><\/span>Sherlock<\/i><\/span><\/span>\u2019s nine movie-length episodes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as the famous detective, each episode serves as a modern adaptation of a particular story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock and Dr. Watson (played by Martin Freeman) work alongside the London Metropolitan Police Service as \u201cconsulting detectives\u201d to solve various crimes. Many characters from Doyle\u2019s stories, including villian Jim Moriarty, appear in the series.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All three of the show\u2019s series (seasons for those of us across the pond) are available to stream on Netflix.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For Best Results:<\/b><\/span><\/span> Take breaks between each emotionally-draining episode. Otherwise, you may find yourself over-analzying everyday situations (and turning into a real-life Sherlock Holmes).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
